President Obama on Wednesday signed a bill lowering tariffs on materials used by U.S. manufacturers and urged Congress to approve $5 billion in additional clean-energy tax credits, saying the moves will help the country meet his goal of doubling exports in the next five years.

Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa), the ranking member on the Senate Finance Committee, on Wednesday urged Democratic leaders to capitalize on President Obama signing into law the U.S. Manufacturing Enhancement Act by advancing the three free-trade agreements that have been sidelined since President George W. President Obama recently introduced the new members of his national export council, headed by the CEOs of Boeing and Xerox, and charged them with helping achieve his ambitious objective of doubling U.S. exports within five years.  He rightly observed that, with 95 percent of the world’s consumers outside our borders, we can’t have a decent or lasting economic recovery without trade.
