In his State of the Union address in January, President Obama outlined his plans to help U.S. businesses double their exports over the next five years and in the process add 2 million American jobs. Further, Obama warned that “if America sits on the sidelines while other nations sign trade deals, we will lose the chance to create jobs on our shores.”

President Obama has claimed to favor free trade. But as in so many cases, what he says doesn’t mean there will be any action.   The free-trade pacts with Columbia, Panama and South Korea have been “pending” for the last sixteen months.  Big Labor does not like free trade.  This one big interest group has driven much of Obama’s action or inaction on almost every administration program or policy.

China has been having trouble with respect to intellectual property issues as they recently lost a few patents. They created a new policy to curtail this issue that is apparently holding a threat to harm U.S. business men and investors.
