Dear Colleague,

As co-chairs of the bipartisan U.S.-South Korea FTA Working Group, we invite your staff to join us at 10:00am on Friday, July 23, 2010, for the first in a series of informational briefings to gain a broader understanding of the implications and benefits of the agreement that the Obama Administration is working to prepare for congressional consideration.

The most commercially significant agreement the U.S. has negotiated in fifteen years, the KORUS FTA holds the potential to create thousands of American jobs, increase U.S. gross domestic product by $10-$12 billion, and continue a partnership with a democratic ally that has a strong record on labor rights and environmental protection.   It is vital to our nation's economic recovery, reengagement in the Asia-Pacific region, and security challenges on the Korean Peninsula.

The briefing will provide staff with a general overview of the agreement and its impact on different sectors of the U.S. economy.   Panelists include:

Ed Gerwin, Senior Fellow for Trade and Global Economic Policy, Third Way
Nick Giordano, Vice President for International Affairs, National Pork Producers Council
Doug Goudie, Director, International Trade Policy, National Association of Manufacturers
Peter Pastre, Vice-President, MetLife

For more information about the briefing or to join the Congressional U.S.-Korea FTA Working Group, please contact Jason Edgar (Rep. Reichert) at x.5-7761 or Juan Hinojosa (Rep. Bright) at x.5-2901.
